Betsy Ross Costumes for the Not So Crafty

Betsy Ross Costumes

The story of Betsy Ross is an interesting and controversial one, as far as being considered the woman who made the first American flag.

Some have attempted to refute the story, saying the tale can't be proven, which was originated, as far as before the public, by her grandson William Canby, who alleged his grandmother, Betsy Ross, was indeed the maker of the first flag of the United States.

Either way, she has become a symbol of the republic, and whether myth or reality, there's no way to put that genie back in the bottle.

What's important is what she represented. That is what has captured the attention and imagination of Americans, and for many Betsy Ross is the matriarch of the American flag.

That has generated a lot of interest from women in donning a Betsy Ross costume to show their patriotism on the Fourth of July or to be patriotic in cosplay or at Halloween time.

One thing for sure, Betsy Ross costumes are colorful and attractive, including the red, white and blue colors of the American flag.

Here's a young girl as Betsy Ross, with a different look than those above. Here, instead of holding a flag, she has it sown into her period costume. Good idea. You know how easy it is to misplace those flags.

Patriotic Betsy Ross Costumes

Many women love to adorn themselves with the patriotic look and legend of Betsy Ross. No matter what age, a large number of American women identify themselves with the probable maker of the first American flag, and in the end, it's what she represents what counts, not whether or not it can be absolutely proven.

Either way, Betsy Ross costumes just look nice, and they work in just about any circumstance.

As you can see from the photos, a little bit of imagination and ingenuity can result in some fantastic costume designs of Betsy Ross.
